^i^ These verses are all too commonly used to condemn gays. It really does seem like you can't get much closer to describing two men having sex together does it? If there were verses in the Bible that the Church would seem to have legitimacy this would sure appear to prove their point. Rom. 1:26-27 would be the only other verse that would also have an immediate appearance that it could be very well gays it refers to. However, I go into detail to show you that Rom. 1:26-27 can in no way refer to gays. All the other verses (13 verses) have no connection to meaning gays is sin. Only the Church at some point in history taught it that way (generally 700 years ago). Lev. 18 & 20 for me were more difficult because not only was I a new Christian (Jan. 27^th, 1974) and there were just no resources I knew of to help me find the truth about these verses. The rest of the verses I quickly found did not mean gay from Christian book stores in Bible study and research material. The Greek and Hebrew clearly described sacred male temple prostitutes in almost all cases. Later as I got access to more detailed studies from very credible sources and got experience in finding materiel on my own along with personally doing a TV program and running a BBS for many years I found plenty of information that easily explains that Leviticus and Romans in no way condemns gays. I learned something very early about God. If something is so, then it will come to light. If Jesus is the Christ then serious facts will always continue ever onward to show indeed he is the Christ and not just written words in a book. The facts do show that the more you learn about Jesus the more concrete the physical and historical evidence agree with the written Word of God. Likewise if gay really is not sin then the more you get into facts the more they will show that gay is not sin. I knew gay was not sin. I am gay. I was not a Christian till I was 27 years old and perhaps one specific day more than any other I became convinced that being gay has nothing to do with evil and no different than being straight. Now to a non-gay it would be very hard to understand because if straights imagine being gay they always come up with it is sickening thought to imagine. When a straight person imagines being straight they are very comfortable with the idea. Gays on the other hand are very familiar with straights and would never have a problem understanding the love that goes on between them. Gays knows that it is the same love that goes on between gays. For a straight person to understand gays the straight person must not image having intimate relations with the same sex because they are straight. For straights to understand gays straights have to image all the various thing straights do in life sexually and otherwise, decent or immoral, then they can grasp how it feels to be gay as it is not different than being straight. This is the clutch of the problem the Church has in understanding the verses used to condemn gays. They can't image gays being anything but evil because to image having sex with the same sex seems so foreign to them. The Church has seen to it that society in general has rejected gays universally. How can any Christian contemplate gays being anything else but un-repenting sinners? Especially, in 1946 when the word homosexual found its way.

^i^ I began attending MCC (Metropolitan Community Church) a Christian gay church. Though I was gay I believed that as much as the straight church was bias against gays I also believed the gay church would be equally bias that gay was not sin. My attitude was to read each side with extreme caution and scrutiny. I was amazed that there were so many independent gay scholars with plenty of credibility and books on this subject and that they came up with much of what I found myself . When I read anti-gay books very little research into facts ever came out. They used mommy made Johnny gay or no daddy at home or psychiatrist records of very sick gays that never fit real gay life. Ex-gays always had unrealistic and abnormal testimonies. The Bible was rarely used in context nor the originals used to corroborate its meanings. The example used to make their point always were the extremes of immorality and saying all gays do this. Parents of gays that do their own research, because they just couldn't accept their church's hopeless sentence upon their children, they also had very similar finding that gay is not sin. There are gobs of books from many of these parents. What does all this mean? It should mean further considerations should be given to this subject concerning gays. 

^i^ To really understand Leviticus does not condemn gays you need this background concerning gays. Generally it shouldn't take long to understand gays aren't the sickos as it was and often still is assumed they are. The American Psychiatric Association has upgraded its report often on gays giving them a complete clean bill of mental health. Getting to know gays will also show you they are humans just like you and those with lovers have the same kind of family life you have and many even has children. Now you can read Leviticus afresh.

 ^i^ I don't know about you, but I come out with this verse is most likely talking about a kind of woman that is married, but has sex with other men. Is there more to confirm this or does this word mean a simple wife. If it just meant woman then at the very best it is talking about a fornicating woman right? Now much of the condemnation of gays is they aren't legally married so every sex act is fornication. Don't you see the irony of it? The Church builds into their condemnation of gays with and absolute. Gays can't legally marry so therefore are always condemn fornicating no matter what. God does not adhere to the Church's formula and now many countries have legal gay marriages and even in the USA it is a status being given and seriously being considered. Canada recently made way for the whole country to go legal for gay marriage.  What God joins to gather let not man put asunder..

This is a verse that can be divided and made doctrine because it is an inclusive statement for all things God does and man should not attempt to undue..

^i^ What does " Often unexpressed in English" mean? Well it means that when translating to English the kind of woman is not transferred to English. There are many ways to describe females. Most are immoral at best in this verse. Leviticus does not clearly tell you that it is comparing a straight marriage to a gay marriage, so if you do not understand the word you can apply the English rendering as you please and so change the verse meaning to your whims. However, the entire chapter of 18 & 20 clearly is talking about immorality. Many gays are indeed loose with their sleeping around, but the kings and queens of sexual immorality are held by straights without question. You can not condemn all gays for the sake of those that sleep around, just like straight is not sin for those many that are out of bounds of wedlock. Another point without making sin less intense, but gays are in a special circumstance. The Church forced them into acts that seem immoral. God holds the Church accountable for not allowing gays a life to pursue relationships like straights do. Many gays won't seek a permanent relationship with someone because that would put them at risk of being found out. It is not easy to move about with the one you love with out suspicion of on lookers. How do you shop for household items which only married folk shop together for that only goes to those that are married (can’t shop for a bed  implying you’d be sleeping together on it)? In my case in Seattle I have yet to have a problem, every sales person has always helps us in our purchases on these kinds of item where we must talk in terms that these our for our mutual use. Like bedroom sets, major appliances, cars, and really about everything. So, many gays will not live together or even date the same person regularly for fear of being found out. Gays have been finding ways to meet their sexual needs for 700 especially difficult years. So when you hear gays seem to have many sexual partners (since you forgot how many opposite sex you dated around) you say how evil, while God assigns their sin to you because it is those that condemn gays that force them  to adapt to  ways to satisfy otherwise normal sexual desires and relationships. So when 18 & 20 says man with man like man with woman there is more to it than saying this says gay is sin. Is there more? Tons more.

All of these are acts done to other gods in a religious ritual setting. With around 630 million gays in the world it is not hard to get an idea for general practical purposes no gay has sex to other gods or use their sex life as a ritual worship to other gods. Gays are like straights. Boy meets boy, they date, they fall in love, and then they marry. This is the same process straight do. When condemning true gays you need Bible that describes true gay behavior not some sexual immoral act that is common amongst straights to.

Most major Bible study reference on gays usually list all 13 of the verses as covering sodomites, so you can quickly see a problem here that the sole foundation to condemn gays is this word sodomite.

ABOMINATION

            Anything that offends the spiritual, religious, or moral sense of a person and causes extreme disgust, hatred, or loathing. Among the objects described as an "abomination" were the carved images of pagan gods <Deut. 7:25-26>, the sacrifice to God of inferior blemished animals <Deut. 17:1>, the practice of idolatry <Deut. 17:2-5>, and the fashioning of a "carved or molded image" of a false god <Deut. 27:15; Is. 44:19>.

            Other abominations were sexual transgressions <Leviticus 18>, the adoption of the dress of the opposite sex <Deut. 22:5>, and the practice of magic, witchcraft, and "spiritism" <Deut. 18:9-12>. Most of the Hebrew words translated "abomination" have the meaning of "impure," "filthy," and "unclean"-- that which is foul-smelling and objectionable to a holy God.

The above again sort of admits that other gods is a must mainstay to abomination, but then  it detours off to  modern conception Vatican influenced  that this is a everyday human word for hated thing, so then if you hate it then God must hate it to and or if God hates it you should hate it to so you can wish what God hates so you can have his agreement to your hate. When you do a listing of every use of this word in the entire Bible you get quite a few maybe 50 plus, only one form of the word really can mean something disgusting, but even this word is used to describe eating food consecrated to idols.

 ^i^ To the left is a quick reference to the word "sodomy" from my Bible program’s topics selection. As you can see Lev 18:22 and 20:13 are included. Just about any combination of searches relating to these general verses used to condemn gays always comes up with this list. This means you have much more information to study concerning at least what the Church thinks Lev 18:22 and 20:13 mean. If these verses really meant gay is sin then its corresponding verses would also mean the same. Since most of these verses mean.

^i^ It should be easy to figure that just maybe the Church does not know what it is talking about concerning Lev. These verses do not describe a loving caring relationship of either a straight married couple of a gay couple that are lovers. The best concrete information we can arrive at is both parties are acting immorally. But we have plenty of Bible left in Lev to determine if it is talking about gays here.

^i^ One note: It is funny how often homophobic Christians compare gays with having sex with animals, even the grouping to the left Exod 22:19 and Lev 20:15-16 strangely comes up. In Washington some years ago a group tried to get a law past to associate gays in the sex with animals’ class.

Once again I want to remind you nearly all studies done by those that think gay is sin and have integrated them into Bible study software or any presentation will result in the same set of verses. Maybe one less or more and some really wild ones such as sex with animals as above uses. Otherwise really good study programs on most all other topics really do very well at presenting source material and correctly relating info to their topics.

^i^ Why is it important to review so much concerning these verses? You see you can't just use the Bible to your own whims. The Bible is researchable and each part can be confirmed on itself, besides all the material in real life. Since the Bible is the REAL WORD OF GOD then it can be compared with real life world. The Bible is not myths or legends, but something very real. You can't say because today's world is mainly secular so that you can say ordinary secular behavior we see today compares to specific Bible events. Yes, they indeed do, in ways, but you need to get to the real descriptions of real people and not place people in your pet verse. You can't view the 630 million gays and say they are the Lev 18 & 20 men that laid with men. Leviticus is very religious and both Egypt and Canaan were anything but secular. They were extremely religious.

Moloch, in the Old Testament, deity at one period associated with Baal, probably as a sun god, but differing from him in being almost entirely malevolent. The worship of Moloch embraced human sacrifice, ordeals by fire, and self-mutilation. The Hebrew form of the word is invariably Molech, meaning "king" or "counselor." The first recorded instance of a worshiper of Jehovah who "burned his son as an offering" (that is, to Moloch) is that of Ahaz (see 2 Kings 16:3). The same story is told of Manasseh, eponymous ancestor of one of the 12 tribes of ancient Israel (see 2 Kings 21:6). The practice is also alluded to in the books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Leviticus. The ritual of Moloch worship was probably borrowed by Judah from one of the surrounding nations; it was practiced by the Moabites (see 2 Kings 3:27) and Ammonites.

Gehenna (Greek Geenna; Hebrew Ge Hinnom), Valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem, where Solomon, king of Israel, built "a high place," or place of worship, for the gods Chemosh and Moloch, according to 1 Kings 11:7. Because some of the Israelites are supposed to have sacrificed their children to Moloch there (see 2 Kings 23:10), the valley came to be regarded as a place of abomination. In a later period it was made a refuse dump, and perpetual fires were maintained there to prevent pestilence. Thus, in the New Testament, Gehenna became synonymous with hell.

Molech m1/2´lµk or Moloch m1/2´l1/4k, Canaanite god of fire to whom children were offered in sacrifice. He is also known as an Assyrian god. His worship was contrary to Hebrew law, and the prophets strongly condemned it.

 This part of Leviticus was written around the 6th century BC most likely while in the Captivity according to many scholars.

  Zoroaster (circa 630-550 BC), Persian religious prophet, who founded Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster (known in ancient Persian as Zarathustra) was born in the eastern Persian land of Airyana Vaejah, probably during the period preceding that of the Achaemenian kings, although earlier dates have been suggested. When still a fairly young man he began receiving revelations from Ahura Mazda (the "Lord Wisdom"). His conversations with this godhead, and his difficulties while preaching, are recorded in the Gathas, part of the sacred scripture known as the Avesta. Apparently it was after years of struggle with priests of established cults (during which time he had made some converts among his relatives and others) that he found a champion in Vishtaspa, king of Chorasmia (now in Russian Turkestan). Thereafter the religion preached by Zoroaster prospered. Zoroaster's homeland was mountainous, devoted to the raising of cattle, which were considered sacred animals. Through his religion, he had hoped to unite cattle herders against nomadic marauders and practitioners of certain sacrificial cults. Still, the intellectual depth of his system may well have exerted a profound influence on Western thought; Plato, Aristotle, and other Greek thinkers showed a great interest in his doctrines. It is at least likely that Zoroaster's ideas strongly affected the course of Judeo-Christian demonology, angelology, and eschatology. Influences have been noted in the Manual of Discipline found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

 Zoroastrianism, religion founded in ancient Persia by the prophet Zoroaster. The doctrines preached by Zoroaster are preserved in his metrical Gathas (psalms), which form part of the sacred scripture known as the Avesta.

 CAPTIVITY 6^th century

            Pharaoh Necho of Egypt allied with the faltering Assyrian armies in order to protect his own interests, but his action could not prevent disaster. Instead, he attracted the attention of the Babylonians, who defeated the Egyptian armies at Carchemish in 605 B. C. and placed Judah under tribute. Three years later King Jehoiakim of Judah rebelled, and in 597 B. C. powerful Babylonian and Chaldean armies conquered Jerusalem and took "three thousand and twenty-three Jews" captive to Mesopotamia <Jer. 52:28>.

^i^ Lev. 20:13 gives a death penalty which could not ever be enforced and during the Captivity. Zoroastrianism was predominant of their captors and in sacred scripture known as the Avesta (Zor's bible) it reads just about word for word what the scribes wrote in Leviticus. Chapters 17-26 are what many scholars ascribe were penned by the scribes. So what have you learned? First Israel was about to enter the Promise Land, then God told them don't do as the nation you came from or going to are doing. Those nations are worshipping gods with specific rituals; the god Molech is named (Moloch). No hint that God was talking about normal moral laws that any nation may in a secular since. It is extremely clear that God was talking about worshipping other gods of these lands. In fact the "Larry Wilson's" full cup principle was in effect for Canaan. Their sins reached the brim and God moved to totally destroy the whole of Canaan by the hand of Israel. Not because of Israel's sake, but because the sins had take full course and there was no more that could be done for those people. There were sodomites in the land (male temple prostitutes) who were men felt called by their god or goddess to be this sacred person. Mostly straights were their clients. The woman version also was present. Some Israel men were tempted and did go to these male prostitutes as Israeli people often went after other gods. The historical record show these sodomites often cut off their penis and dress liked women to accommodate their straight clients. The general population when the Word of God said don't cross dress it meant it referred to sodomites not transvestites. The general population also knew there were gay people everywhere and if you asked them what was a eunuch they'd say they were all gay or most of them were. In that time depending where you were gays were frowned upon or accepted. Usually matriarchal societies accepted gays and patriarchal tended to reject them. Jesus said,

Matt 19:12 "For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it". (KJV)

Some scholars say these Leviticus verses were Levite moral codes telling Levites if they are gay they must abstain from sex. This was the first explanation that I found trying to show a conditional meaning here. This just could not be so. I don't care who you are gay or straight or what degree of expertise you may have if you hold this conclusion you are just plain wrong. Never ever at any time has God set rules up that a class of people be denied sexual fulfillment for a lifetime or a duty period. It is well known no straight Levite had to ever abstain from his wife indefinitely because he is a Levite. Nor has any gay Levite under any similar duty that a straight Levite was obligated by Levitical code had to abstain sexual relations. If a straight Levite could have his wife so can a gay Levite have his lover. It is man that forbids appropriate sex. A pretty good verse is:

Abstain from sex in marriage life for fasting:

1 Cor 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. (KJV)

Christians deny people the right to marry not God:

1 Tim 4:1-5 1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. (KJV)

^i^ The Bible tells us don't tell people they can't marry and it also says that should you as even a married person abstain for a season of fasting and prayer to hurry and get it over with so satan won't tempt you. We love to judge others concerning sex and have lost sight of what is right and what is wrong. Gays are not forbidden to marry by God only man has forbidden them using Bible far out of context and setting as their justification all the while saying gays are justifying their lifestyles. Try reading all of Leviticus chapter 18 & 20 then try to compare what really is going on with gays. It is quite a different picture than most the Church has painted. Gays are just like straights. Immorally and morally they behave the same. Only difference is straights far out race gays towards sexual immorality. One last thing before I finish. I was just checking out a thesaurus from Office 97' on a search on "eunuch" and got this result:
